Getting started

Create a MAP policy

Set the price floor a scope of products is measured against, from a date, with the tolerance and the shipping, coupon and cart-price rules your program uses.

Last revised

A MAP policy is the floor an advertised price is measured against. It covers a scope — the whole brand, a product group or one product, on a marketplace, for a condition — and it states what the floor is from a date. Nothing is evaluated until a policy is in force for the product an offer belongs to.

Creating the policy

  1. Open Configuration › MAP policies and choose Create MAP policy. (You can also start from a product’s own page.)
  2. Under Scope, choose the Brand, give the policy a name, and choose what it covers: the whole brand, a product group, or one product. Choose the Marketplace and the Condition. The scope cannot be changed afterwards; a different scope is a different policy.
  3. Under Version 1, enter the MAP amount and Currency and the instant the floor is in force from. A date in the past measures observations already recorded from that date; a date in the future waits.
  4. Set the Tolerance: None (the floor is the floor), an amount below the floor, or a percentage below the floor. A price inside the tolerance is compliant.
  5. Set the treatment rules — see the table below — and add a Note if the version has a reason worth recording.
  6. Choose Create policy. Version 1 is in force from the instant you set. Because creating a policy puts a floor in force, it needs the Brand Admin role; a Compliance Manager can draft promotions but not policies.

The treatment rules

RuleOptionsWhat it decides
ShippingCompare the item price only · Compare item plus shippingWhether the landed price or the listing price is measured. Under item plus shipping, an offer whose shipping cannot be read is indeterminate rather than assumed free.
CouponsIgnore coupons · Apply coupons to the price · Flag couponed offers for reviewHow a visible coupon participates. Flag for review routes a couponed offer to a person instead of judging it either way.
Cart-only priceIndeterminate when cart-only · Use the cart price when observedWhether a price shown only in the cart counts as advertised. The default treats it as indeterminate, because a hidden price is not an advertised one.
Out of stockJudge the advertised price anyway · Do not judge out-of-stock offersWhether an out-of-stock offer is measured.

How an observation is measured

The rules engine finds the policy version in force at the observation’s instant, applies any approved promotion in force for the scope (which lowers the floor for its window), checks for an exception, applies the treatment rules, and compares the price with the floor using exact arithmetic. A price exactly at MAP is compliant. One cent below, outside the tolerance, is below policy.

Which policy applies when several could

The narrowest scope wins: a product policy over a product-group policy over a brand policy, for the same marketplace and condition. A product that is not covered by any policy is not evaluated, and its observations say so.
