Promotions
A promotion is an approved, bounded change to the effective MAP for a scope. How to draft one, who approves it, and how it reverts by itself.
Last revised
A promotion lowers the effective MAP for a scope of products between two instants. While it is in force, an observation inside the window is measured against the promotional floor; when the window ends, the policy’s own floor applies again with nothing to switch off. A promotion is how a sanctioned sale is kept from filling the review queue with candidates that are not violations.
Drafting a promotion
- Open Configuration › Promotions and choose New promotion.
- Under Scope, choose the Brand, name the promotion, and choose what it covers: the whole brand, a product group, or one product. Choose the Marketplace and Condition.
- Under The window and the floor, set Starts and Ends — both required, both read as UTC — and the Promotional MAP. Add the Reason.
- Choose Draft promotion. A draft changes nothing until it is approved.
Approving, cancelling, and the window
| State | Effect |
|---|---|
| Draft | Recorded, not in force. Visible to the team. |
| Approved | In force for its window. A Brand Admin approves from the promotion’s row; approval needs the policy: activate permission. |
| Canceled | Withdrawn. An approved promotion that is canceled stops applying from the cancellation; observations already evaluated under it are unchanged. |
The window is half-open: the promotion applies at exactly its start instant and stops applying at exactly its end instant. Nothing sweeps expired promotions and nothing needs to — an expired window simply no longer matches — so a scheduling outage cannot leave a promotional floor in force.
Overlapping promotions
If two approved promotions could cover the same observation, the narrower scope wins: a product promotion over a product-group promotion over a brand promotion. Two promotions at the same specificity with overlapping windows are refused when the second is saved, because two floors cannot both be the MAP and picking one would hide a defect behind a confident answer.
What a promotion is not
- It is not a policy change. A promotion with no end date is a policy change wearing a promotion’s costume, and the form requires an end.
- It is not an exception. A promotion changes the floor; an exception changes whether an observation is judged or enforced at all. See Exceptions.
- It does not dismiss existing candidates. A candidate created before the promotion was approved is still in the queue; a reviewer dismisses it with the reason Authorized promotion.
